Nigerian music stars Rema, Ayra Starr, and Mercy Chinwo emerged as big winners at the 2025 Trace Awards, held at the picturesque Mora Resort in Zanzibar, Tanzania, on February 26.

Rema took home two of the night’s biggest honors, winning Album of the Year for Heis and Best Male Artist. Ayra Starr was recognized as the Best West African Artist, solidifying her influence in the region.

In the gospel category, Mercy Chinwo won Best Gospel Artist for her inspiring contributions to the genre. Meanwhile, veteran artist D’banj was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his enduring impact on the music industry.

Other Nigerian winners included P.Priime, who secured Best Producer for his work on MMS, and Meji Alabi, who won Best Music Video for directing Rema’s DND.

The ceremony featured a strong representation of African and global talent, with South African sensation Tyla winning Best Female Artist and Ivorian rapper Didi B taking Best Hip Hop Artist.

The Trace Awards continue to celebrate excellence in African and Afro-inspired music worldwide, showcasing the continent’s growing influence on the global stage.
