Protesters on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, shut down the office of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Alagbaka, Akure, Osun, Nigeria, following the killing of five farmers by suspected armed herdsmen.
The demonstration, which escalated tensions in the state capital, was sparked by the killing of the farmers at Aba Oyinbo in Akure North Local Government Area earlier in the day. The protesters, outraged by the rising wave of insecurity, brought the bodies of the slain farmers to the governor’s office, demanding immediate government action.
This latest attack follows a series of violent incidents in the region, including a reprisal attack by herdsmen on four communities in Akure North earlier this month, which left several people dead.
In addition to the demonstration at the governor’s office, angry protesters also blocked the Akure-Owo highway at Ogbese, leaving many motorists stranded.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, who recently summoned security chiefs in response to the worsening insecurity, has pledged to improve security measures across the state. However, residents are calling for urgent and concrete action to prevent further attacks.
