In a bid to bolster his administration, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has put forth eight new nominees for the position of commissioners. Spearheaded by the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led Rivers State House of Assembly, the screening is slated to commence at 10:00 am today, marking the second such exercise under Oko-Jumbo’s stewardship.
Among the notable nominees are Charles Bekee, a former Commissioner for Commerce and ex-Chairman of the Rivers/Bayelsa Branch of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria; Collins Onunwo, previously serving as the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area; Solomon Eke, also a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The list further includes Peter Medee, who held the portfolio of Commissioner for Energy in the previous administration; Barr. Elloka Tasie-Amadi, former Commissioner for Works; Basoene Benibo; Tambari Sydney-Gbara, the immediate past Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state; and Dr. Ovy Chukwuma.
This development comes hot on the heels of the successful screening and confirmation of Dagogo Iboroma, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), as the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state in the preceding week.
Governor Fubara’s move underscores his commitment to assembling a competent team to drive the state’s development agenda forward.
