Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo. This announcement was made in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, following recommendations by the Oyomesi, the council of kingmakers, after thorough consultations and divinations.
The appointment puts to rest the controversies and legal disputes that arose after the demise of Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III on April 22, 2022. Hon. Ademola Ojo, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, stated that the announcement marks a new chapter for the historic Oyo Kingdom.
Hon. Ojo urged citizens of Oyo State to celebrate the appointment and extend their support to the new monarch. He expressed hope that Prince Owoade’s reign will usher in peace, prosperity, and unity for the people of the kingdom.
