
Police authorities have apprehended a pregnant woman, identified as the leader of an oil bunkering syndicate, along with her husband and six accomplices for their alleged involvement in illegal oil bunkering activities in the South-East region, Nigeria.
The arrest was made on July 4th by personnel of the Taskforce attached to the South-East Surveillance, intercepting three wooden boats loaded with 160 sacks of petroleum products suspected to have been illicitly acquired.
Force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated, “The suspects were involved in aiding and abetting an organized syndicate specialized in tampering with oil pipelines and stealing therefrom.” The Inspector-General of Police Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering led the arrest operation, resulting in the apprehension of the suspects.
Adejobi mentioned, “Preliminary investigation led to the arrest of two other suspects, including the pregnant woman and her husband, who confessed to their involvement in the illicit activities. The suspects have been remanded in prison pending further legal proceedings.”
This arrest is part of the ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to combat oil theft and illegal bunkering activities in the country, as emphasized by the Inspector-General of Police.
