A devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Myanmar on Friday, March 28, 2025, sending tremors across Thailand and parts of China. The quake led to widespread destruction, causing buildings to collapse and prompting emergency responses across the region.

In Thailand, the disaster triggered the collapse of an under-construction high-rise in Bangkok, trapping dozens of people under the rubble. Authorities have declared the capital an “emergency zone” as rescue workers race against time to find survivors.

Myanmar, already struggling with the effects of prolonged civil unrest, has declared an “emergency situation” across central parts of the country. In the capital, Naypyidaw, medical workers are treating survivors, while bodies of victims line hospital grounds. The historic city of Mandalay also suffered extensive damage.

In China, emergency teams have been deployed to affected regions, including Ruili, near the Myanmar border, where buildings sustained significant damage.

The full extent of casualties and destruction is still being assessed as rescue efforts continue.
