Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was absent from a musical concert hosted by renowned Fuji musician Alhaji Taye Currency in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, due to safety concerns.

Portable had previously made headlines when he criticized Ibadan residents in a viral video, claiming they lacked modern roofing designs like Plaster-of-Paris (POP), which he said was common in Lagos and other Nigerian cities. The remarks sparked outrage among Oyo State residents, leading to backlash on social media.

Despite apologizing for his comments and confirming his invitation to perform at the event, fans advised him against attending the concert.

According to Jarule Entertainment, the concert organizers, concerns about Portable’s safety heightened after reports emerged of individuals inquiring about his location in Ibadan.

“We consulted with the commissioner of police and even signed an undertaking. While adequate security was provided, reports of threats to his safety led us to the decision that Portable should stay off the venue,” said Jarule Entertainment.

Though Portable arrived in Ibadan and lodged at a hotel near the venue, he did not perform, making him the only artist unable to grace the stage. The concert management emphasized that the decision was made to prioritize safety, adding that they hoped the issue would soon be resolved.
