A Kaduna State police officer, Hadaina Hussaini Dan-Taki, has sparked controversy after allegedly threatening reprisal attacks on Southerners living in northern Nigeria.

Dan-Taki’s comment, posted on Facebook on Tuesday, followed the brutal killing of 16 northerners in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State. In the post, he swore by Almighty God, vowing that northerners would retaliate.

“I swear to Almighty God, we must do something for you guys. Have you forgotten all your brothers that are living here in the North? Mark my words, after one week, you shall see the result,” he wrote.

After facing backlash, Dan-Taki reportedly changed his first name and restricted access to his Facebook account.

An X user, @UcheDIgboezeson, called the attention of the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, to Dan-Taki’s comments, urging the authorities to take action.

Adejobi acknowledged the post, responding, “Noted for necessary action. Thanks.”

Meanwhile, authorities have already arrested 14 suspects in connection with the killings in Uromi. Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, confirmed that the suspects had been transferred to Abuja for further interrogation.

The attack, which occurred last Thursday, saw a mob ambush a vehicle carrying hunters from Kano who were en route to their home state for Sallah celebrations. After guns were discovered in their vehicle, the men were lynched, sparking nationwide condemnation.

Governor Okpebholo described the killings as “unacceptable” and assured that those responsible would face justice.
