The Kogi State Police Command has issued a stern warning to suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, urging her to cancel her planned Sallah rally in Kogi Central Senatorial District.
Commissioner of Police Miller Dantawaye, in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya, cited security concerns as the reason for the directive. The statement emphasized that the rally violates the state government’s recent ban on all political gatherings.
“Following intelligence reports on security threats in Kogi State and the subsequent ban on all forms of rallies and processions by the state government, the Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Command, calls on the organizers of the planned rally in Okene to cancel the event in the interest of peace,” the statement read.
The police warned that intelligence suggests that hoodlums may attempt to hijack the rally, potentially leading to violence and a breakdown of law and order.
“The command cannot afford to jeopardize the existing peace in the state. We advise the organizers to cancel the event to prevent any disturbance, as we will not hesitate to enforce the law against anyone found disrupting public order,” the statement added.
Despite the ban, Akpoti-Uduaghan remains defiant, insisting that her visit is purely to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with her constituents.
