The Kaduna State Police Command has issued a formal summons to the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, alongside seven key members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna.

The summons, contained in a letter dated September 4, 2025, was signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Uzainu Abdullahi, who heads the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

El-Rufai and the ADC members were invited for questioning concerning allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.

The police requested that these individuals appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Kaduna on September 8, 2025, to clarify the reported allegations lodged by unnamed complainants.

The other individuals named in the summons alongside El-Rufai include Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (popularly known as “30”), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (also known as “Mikiya”).

The context for this development relates to a recent violent episode at Kaduna, where suspected thugs reportedly attacked a coalition meeting involving the ADC and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The attack resulted in injuries to several party members and damage to property.

The police have also sealed the ADC state secretariat located on Ali Akilu Road as part of the ongoing investigations.

In response, El-Rufai condemned the police action as unconstitutional overreach at a press briefing.

He insisted that neither he nor the party leaders had been served the official notice of summons and accused the police commissioner of acting without proper legal documentation.

El-Rufai vowed to challenge the police move legally, stating, “We want to see that order, and, of course, we will challenge whatever grounds to the Supreme Court. This is not the end of it.”

The Kaduna State government, meanwhile, accused El-Rufai of plotting to destabilize the state through provocative actions and inflammatory statements, charges he has vehemently denied.

The government emphasized that maintaining peace and order remained a priority and warned that anyone threatening security would be held accountable.

This development highlights the escalating political tensions in Kaduna State as the opposition parties navigate a challenging environment marked by violence and governmental pressure.
