The Lagos State Police Command in Nigeria has successfully recovered N1 million extorted from three National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by four police officers in the Surulere area of Lagos.

The incident came to light when an X user, Oluyemi Fasipe, reported that the officers had allegedly extorted the corps members for failing to produce a physical driver’s license. The officers also reportedly forced one of the corps members to transfer Bitcoin worth $842.

Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the officers involved had been identified and were under interrogation. However, he did not disclose their names.

“The rogue men of the Area C Command who extorted over one million naira from the corps members have refunded the money,” Fasipe shared on Friday, October 4. “I am patiently waiting for the outcome of their trial. I appreciate the efforts of Benjamin Hundeyin and the NYSC Lagos State for their support in this matter.”

Hundeyin also indicated that the ongoing trial of the officers will determine their culpability, with potential consequences, including dismissal, if found guilty.
