The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a private school teacher, Stella Nwadigo, after a viral video captured her physically assaulting a three-year-old pupil, identified as Abayomi Michael. The incident occurred at Christ-Mitots School in the Ola Inukan area of Isawo, Ikorodu.
The arrest, confirmed by the state police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, followed initial intervention by operatives of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, who handed Nwadigo over to the police. “The teacher has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing investigation. Further necessary actions will follow to ensure justice is served,” Hundeyin stated on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has also launched an investigation into the case. A team from the ministry’s Office of Quality Assurance is scheduled to visit the school to gather facts about the incident.
Kayode Sutton, Head of Public Affairs at the ministry, disclosed that a comprehensive report will be submitted to the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, upon completion of the inquiry.
The disturbing video, which surfaced online Thursday, sparked widespread condemnation from Nigerians, with many calling for justice for the young victim.
