The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of Nick Imudia, the former CEO of Konga, a leading e-commerce company in Nigeria. Imudia, who was also CEO of D.light, a company specializing in solar energy solutions, reportedly took his own life on Tuesday night.

The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) revealed that its Homicide Section has visited the scene of the incident in Lekki, Lagos, and is conducting a forensic analysis. According to police sources, Imudia’s death occurred after he jumped from the balcony of his apartment.

Recall that it was alleged that before his tragic act, Imudia contacted his brother in the U.S. to discuss the distribution of his assets and called his daughter, reassuring her that he would always be with her in spirit. “He told his daughter to look to the sky whenever she needed him,” a police source disclosed.

Imudia’s death has shocked his family, friends, and colleagues. An insider said, “Nick’s decision to take his life has left us all stunned. We had no indication that he was struggling with any issues.”

Meanwhile, the family of Nick Imudia has strongly refuted media reports suggesting that he committed suicide.

In a statement released by Dr. Anthony N. Imudia on behalf of the family, it was clarified that Nick Imudia did not make any final calls to his brother or daughter with instructions regarding his assets, contrary to widespread reports. The family emphasized that the initial news reports on Imudia’s death were premature and suspect, occurring less than three hours after his passing and while medical professionals were still attempting resuscitation.

“The family of Nick Imudia is unhappy with the unprofessional manner the media has wrongly characterized the reporting of Nick Imudia’s death as suicide,” the statement read. It also highlighted the ongoing investigation by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police’s office, which has yet to conclude the cause of death.

Nick Imudia, known for his vibrant personality and successful career, did not exhibit any signs of stress or depression according to his family. “Nick never showed any sign of stress and he was not diagnosed as depressed at any point,” the statement continued, questioning the narrative of suicide portrayed by the media.

The family described Nick as a dynamic leader whose career spanned roles with Nokia, where he managed operations in Asia and Africa, and later as the CEO of Konga Nigeria, where he significantly reengineered the company’s operations. At the time of his death, he was leading D.light International from its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.

Nick Imudia was on a brief visit to Lagos after a trip to the Netherlands and was scheduled to return to Nairobi the day after his sudden demise. His unexpected death has left those who knew him shocked and dismayed by the allegations of suicide.

The family has called on the media and the public to respect their privacy and allow them to grieve without the burden of unsubstantiated rumors. They have urged for patience and respect as investigations continue to determine the true cause of Imudia’s untimely death.

Originally from Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Imudia had been married twice, first to a woman from his hometown, with whom he had a daughter, and later to a Caucasian woman. His professional journey included roles at TCL/Alcatel and Microsoft Device and Services before leading Konga and D.light.
