The Nigeria Police Force has successfully extradited Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, widely known as “Killaboi,” from Doha, Qatar, to face trial for the alleged murder of his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend, Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe. The suspect, who had been on the run for nearly two years, was repatriated in the early hours of Saturday following an extensive international manhunt.
According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Nnayereugo is accused of killing Onuwabhagbe, a first-class student of Lead City University, Ibadan, at his residence in Ajah, Lagos, on July 13, 2023. After committing the crime, he allegedly fled Nigeria and later posted a video online purportedly confessing to the murder—a move police described as a deliberate ploy to mislead investigators.
The extradition followed a petition filed by the victim’s family in September 2024, prompting INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja to launch a cross-border investigation. Police reports indicate that Nnayereugo initially evaded capture by adopting multiple false identities, moving through West Africa, East Asia, and the Middle East before settling in Qatar in January 2025 under the alias “Toure Abdoulaye” with a forged Guinean passport.
His arrest in Doha in February was made possible through advanced biometric verification and collaboration between INTERPOL offices in Abuja and Doha. The Federal Ministry of Justice facilitated the extradition process, which was approved by Qatari judicial authorities.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun commended the joint efforts of international law enforcement agencies, including INTERPOL and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar, emphasizing the importance of global cooperation in combating transnational crime. He assured the public that the suspect would face prosecution, reaffirming the police’s commitment to justice.
The case has drawn widespread attention, highlighting concerns over gender-based violence and the lengths to which suspects go to evade justice. Authorities have vowed to ensure a thorough trial as the nation watches closely for developments in the high-profile case.
