The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of popular TikTok influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller.

The arrest follows the circulation of a viral video that showed him driving recklessly and subsequently crashing his vehicle while live-streaming the incident on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

According to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Adebisi, the police described the influencer’s conduct as posing a serious threat to public safety. They stated his actions constituted “a deliberate attempt to commit suicide” and endangered the lives of other innocent road users.

The command confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.

The Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers, content creators, and the general public.

He urged them to desist from using online platforms to promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful behavior. The police stressed that such lawlessness would no longer be tolerated, and the full weight of the law would be applied to any offender, regardless of their social status or online influence.

The incident has reignited public debate over the growing trend of risky stunts by content creators seeking online engagement.

Authorities reiterated that road traffic crashes remain a major public safety concern in Lagos, often linked to speeding and distracted driving.

The police affirmed their commitment to prosecuting anyone whose actions endanger lives, as part of ongoing efforts to curb reckless behavior on the state’s roads.
