Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has imposed new security restrictions following Sunday night’s deadly assault on Zikwe Village in Bassa Local Government Area, which left multiple civilians dead.

The governor revealed the measures during a press briefing Tuesday, describing the attack as “calculated and painful” while vowing the state would remain unbroken. The violence comes barely weeks after over 50 people were killed in Bokkos.

Effective immediately, the state has:

  • Banned all night grazing activities
  • Prohibited cattle transportation after 7 PM
  • Restricted motorcycle movements between 7 PM and 6 AM statewide

Mutfwang commended security forces and emergency responders for their swift intervention while thanking President Bola Tinubu for directing enhanced security operations.

The governor announced free medical care for victims across all hospitals in affected areas, with relief materials already being distributed. He called on traditional rulers and youth leaders to reactivate community vigilante groups to support security agencies.

“To grieving families in Zikwe, Bokkos and beyond – your pain is ours. We mourn with you and will not rest until peace is restored,” Mutfwang stated, urging citizens to remain calm but vigilant.

The new restrictions aim to curb the movement of armed groups that have carried out repeated deadly raids across Plateau’s rural communities. Security analysts warn the measures’ effectiveness will depend on strict enforcement across the state’s vast terrain.
