A Delta Air Lines passenger jet crash-landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, flipping upside down upon impact and leaving at least eight people injured, according to local reports.
The Endeavor Flight 4819, traveling from Minneapolis, Minnesota, crashed while attempting to land in Canada’s largest city. Emergency teams quickly responded to the scene, ensuring that all passengers and crew were accounted for, the airport authority confirmed in a statement.
Public broadcaster CBC reported that three of the injured are in critical condition, including a child. The injured individuals were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Dramatic images and videos from the scene showed passengers stumbling away from the overturned aircraft amid strong winds. A passenger, John Nelson, shared a video on Facebook, writing, “Our plane crashed. It’s upside down. Most people appear to be okay. We’re all getting off.”
Delta Air Lines acknowledged the incident and stated that it was working to confirm further details. Meanwhile, Canadian Federal Transport Minister Anita Anand revealed that 80 passengers were on board at the time of the crash.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed relief that there were no fatalities and assured the public that airport and local authorities were providing necessary assistance.
The crash comes as Toronto grapples with severe winter weather. A powerful snowstorm swept through eastern Canada on Sunday, bringing strong winds and freezing temperatures that continued into Monday.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash as recovery operations continue at the airport.
