Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, formerly of the music duo P-Square, was confronted in court for allegedly providing false information about his academic credentials during the ongoing fraud trial involving his brother and former manager, Jude Okoye.

During a heated cross-examination on Friday, defence counsel Clement Onwuenwunor, SAN, presented evidence challenging Peter’s earlier claim that he graduated from the University of Abuja.

Peter had initially told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he was a graduate of the institution. However, the defence revealed that he actually dropped out, accusing him of deliberately misleading the EFCC with contradictory statements.

When pressed on the inconsistency between his oral testimony and written EFCC records, Peter attempted to clarify that he only said he “attended” the university, but court documents showed he had described himself as a “graduate,” forcing him to admit he did not complete his studies.

The trial, which centers on allegations of fraud against Jude Okoye and his company Northside Music Ltd, continues to unfold with Peter testifying that he was defrauded by his brother and the company. The defence, however, maintains that Peter’s testimony is riddled with inconsistencies and fabrications intended to mislead the court and damage Jude’s reputation.

The case was adjourned to October 10 and 17, 2025, for the continuation of the trial.
