Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has refuted claims circulating on social media about his arrest in Abuja. Addressing the issue on Wednesday via his X handle, the former Anambra State governor labeled the reports as “recurring fake news” and confirmed he is currently at his Onitsha residence in Anambra State.
Obi reminded Nigerians of a similar rumor last September, which falsely claimed his home was raided by the Department of State Services (DSS) while he was in Rwanda. He urged the public not to be distracted by baseless accusations and to remain focused on addressing the pressing challenges facing the nation.
“The motive of these peddlers cannot be positive,” Obi wrote. “Let us not allow baseless rumors to distract us from the critical challenges we face as a nation. I thank the public for their concern, support, and dedication to the cause of a better Nigeria.”
This comes a day after Obi alleged threats to his life following his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in his New Year message. The claim followed a statement attributed to APC spokesperson Felix Morka, who allegedly said Obi had “crossed the line” and would face the consequences. Morka has since denied making any threats.
Obi reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for Nigeria’s progress and urged Nigerians to disregard misleading narratives.
