The Federal Civil Service and various ministries, departments and agencies are facing a deepening pay crisis as millions of workers struggle with unpaid salaries and allowances.

The situation has intensified in recent weeks, with staff in several agencies reporting that they have gone without full payment for months, leading to growing frustration and declining morale among civil servants across the country.

The crisis has been attributed to delays in budgetary releases and challenges in government revenue flow, which have constrained the ability of MDAs to meet payroll obligations on time. Workers in key agencies say the irregular payments have made it difficult to meet basic living costs, forcing some to seek alternative sources of income while they wait for resolutions from authorities.

Trade unions representing federal workers have raised alarms over the persistent delays and threatened industrial action if the issue is not addressed promptly.

Union leaders argue that the government must prioritise the payment of arrears and ensure a sustainable mechanism for timely salary disbursements to prevent further hardship among civil servants.

Officials from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the Ministry of Finance have acknowledged the concerns but say efforts are underway to streamline funding allocations and expedite outstanding payments. However, no definitive timeline has been provided, leaving many workers anxious about when they will receive full compensation.
