Hoodlums attack police station in Lagos - 1

Palpable panic ensued as hoodlums numbering over 100 attacked the Ipaja Police Station in Lagos State, Nigeria on Monday, May 27, 2024. The assault led to a fierce exchange of gunfire, during which some of the attackers were reportedly killed.

Details of the incident remain sketchy, but it was learned that significant police reinforcements have been deployed to the area to restore order and ensure the safety of residents.

This incident comes just three weeks after a similar clash between youths and hoodlums in the Ile-Epo, Abule Egba area of Lagos State. During that altercation, the hoodlums set fire to several stalls filled with goods. The Lagos police, after quelling the violence, arrested over 50 suspects.

In a statement, Lagos State Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said: “Following reports of clashes among some youths and hoodlums in the Ile-Epo area of Lagos State, the DPO Oke-Odo swiftly led his men to the scene and have since restored normalcy. Over fifty suspects have so far been arrested while the shanties they occupied have been destroyed, effectively dislodging them.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has directed the prompt prosecution of the arrested hoodlums and has equally warned that the Command would decisively deal with anyone found breaching the peace, in accordance with the law.

“Meanwhile, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), Area Commander Alagbado, and other Divisional Police Officers under the Area Command are currently on ground to forestall further breakdown of law and order,”He said
