A devastating petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State has claimed the lives of more than 90 people. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night, according to Mr. Shi’isu Adam, the Police Spokesperson in Jigawa.
Adam confirmed that the explosion, which also left 50 individuals hospitalized with varying degrees of injuries, happened around 11:30 pm when the tanker driver lost control near Khadija University.
“The driver was heading from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State when the accident took place,” Adam stated, adding that despite warnings from authorities for people to avoid accident scenes involving fuel tankers, many still gathered, leading to the high number of casualties.
A mass burial for the victims is scheduled for Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. Meanwhile, those injured are currently receiving treatment at the Ringim General Hospital.
