Renowned food critic Opeyemi Famakin and entertainment mogul Cubana Chiefpriest have ignited a social media firestorm following a viral video and heated exchange over a “microwaved burger” that has left food lovers divided.

The controversy began when Opeyemi Famakin, known for his candid reviews of both local and international cuisines, posted a detailed critique on his Instagram page of a burger from a restaurant owned by Cubana Chiefpriest. In his review, Famakin complimented the restaurant’s ambiance but criticized the pastries, alleging they were pre-made and microwaved, which he claimed compromised their quality.

While Cubana Chiefpriest initially responded with a seemingly calm and appreciative comment, saying, “Thank you for visiting, Foodie. Wishing you all the best!”, the situation quickly escalated. Famakin accused Chiefpriest of threatening him over his critical review, sharing screenshots of their direct messages as evidence. Famakin wrote, “I know a threat when I see one. I guess it’s time to leave Imo State ASAP. If anything happens to me while I am here, well, you know who to hold. I love how he was polite in the comment section for the world to see and it was a different tone in my DMs.”

In a swift rebuttal, Cubana Chiefpriest took to his Instagram stories, sharing CCTV footage from his restaurant. He claimed that Famakin had requested the burger be microwaved and criticized the critic for using the incident as content. “You asked them to microwave the burger for you. Stood there and waited for them to do it, then you turned around to sit down and now use it for content,” he wrote. “If you don’t like burgers microwaved, then why did you not stop them? Rather, you stood there to sh**t the rest of your content as you waited for them to heat up the burger as requested. Thought his review was honest and I appreciated it… then went to blast my staff only for them to tell me he asked them to do so and backed it up with videos.”

The unfolding drama has generated mixed reactions across social media, with some expressing disappointment over the alleged threats and others suggesting more constructive ways for both parties to handle the situation.

One Twitter user, @iamcazo, remarked, “Disappointed to hear that Cubana Chiefpriest allegedly threatened Opeyemi Famakin’s life over a negative review of his son’s restaurant in Owerri. No one deserves to be bullied or intimidated for sharing their honest opinion.”

Another user, @thepoetpreneur, suggested a potential public relations strategy, saying, “Cubana Chiefpriest just missed a chance to leverage Opeyemi Famakin’s criticism. He could have invited him to their kitchen and made new pastries. Have him taste it and give another review. Both parties share it on their social media page, and everyone wins. Good PR!”

As the debate continues, it remains to be seen how the clash between the food critic and the entertainment entrepreneur will unfold.
