Nollywood legend Olu Jacobs is alive, his family confirmed Sunday, June 30, 2024 dispelling rampant social media rumors about his death.
Soji Jacobs, the actor’s son, assured newsmen that his 81-year-old father is very much alive, sharing a video where Jacobs is seen calmly getting his beard shaved, engaging briefly with his barber and those around him.
Soji emphasized that these death rumors have been recurring since November 2021, when Jacobs’ wife, actress Joke Silva, disclosed his battle with Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). The family has consistently countered such rumors by posting videos and photos of the veteran actor to reassure fans of his well-being.
In 2021, Silva explained Jacobs’ condition in an interview with Channels Television, saying, “It is known as dementia with Lewy bodies. It is a degenerative disease that affects the brain and it is almost like a Parkinson’s type of disease, it affects the brain so you don’t see the shaking.”
She further expressed the challenges they face, stating, “It’s been hard on him because he doesn’t understand what is going on and also on family members as well. We have gone through it over the past couple of years and we thank God.”
Despite his frail appearance, Jacobs continues to make occasional public appearances, supported by his devoted wife, while fans remain hopeful for his recovery.
