The Ogun State Government has suspended Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale, the traditional ruler of Orile Ifo, for six months following a viral video showing him ordering an elderly man to kneel down.
In a statement on Monday, February 4, 2025, the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs confirmed that the decision was made after both the traditional ruler and the victim were invited for questioning by Commissioner Ganiyu Hamzat. The suspension was carried out in conjunction with the Egba Traditional Council, citing Section 52(1) of the Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State 2021.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the matter, with Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo assuring the public that justice will be served. The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, condemned the act and emphasized that law enforcement will uphold fundamental human rights in the case.
