Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has approved a new minimum wage of N77,000 for workers in the state, making Ogun the highest-paying state in Nigeria. This decision was reached following a meeting between the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, and leaders from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC).

The new wage will take effect in October 2024, with Governor Abiodun also encouraging private-sector workers to engage in discussions with relevant stakeholders to agree on similar wage adjustments.

The NLC Chairman in Ogun State, Hameed Benco, praised the state’s leadership, stating, “It is gratifying that Ogun State will be the highest-paying state at N77,000.” Leaders from the TUC and JNC also expressed their approval, commending the government for being worker-friendly.

The state’s Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, emphasized that this move reflects the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, adding that the approval will boost morale and productivity across the public service.
