Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has extended his congratulations to Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja on his elevation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The formal coronation is scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a congratulatory statement issued on September 24, 2025, through his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo praised the historic significance of Ladoja’s ascension, describing it as a milestone for Ibadanland and a consolidation of a prominent traditional throne in Nigeria.

Writing from New York while attending the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Obasanjo urged the new traditional ruler to maintain a clear distinction between traditional leadership and political authority to ensure success in his role. He emphasized that traditional rulership should not clash with political leadership, citing the importance of humility, patience, divine wisdom, and tolerance as essential qualities for the Olubadan.

Obasanjo blessed the new monarch with a Yoruba royal prayer, “Ade a pe lori, bata a pe lese,” which means, “May the crown endure on your head, and may your shoes last long on your feet.”

The 44th Olubadan, Rashidi Ladoja, is renowned for his political experience and dedication to preserving the dignity of the Olubadan stool. His journey to the throne is noted for resilience and a principled stance against politicization of traditional rulership.

Obasanjo’s message underscores the hope that Ladoja will serve as a unifying figure who respects the distinct roles of traditional and political leadership, ultimately fostering stability and progress in Ibadanland.
