The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has called on northern politicians eyeing the 2027 presidency to defer their ambitions until 2031.
Akume emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be allowed to complete a second term to ensure continuity in governance and stability in the nation. He underscored the importance of adhering to zoning arrangements, which have been critical in promoting national unity and balancing power between regions.
“The North has had its turn in recent years. It is only fair to allow the South to complete its leadership cycle. President Tinubu deserves the opportunity to consolidate his administration’s policies and programs,” Akume said.
He also warned that a premature push for northern leadership could disrupt the country’s political harmony and derail ongoing reforms in the economy, infrastructure, and national security. Akume called for unity among political stakeholders to ensure the nation’s progress.
