
Nollywood has lost one of its most cherished icons, Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, better known as Agbako, who passed away at the age of 101.
The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) confirmed his death through a statement by its president, Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr. Latin. He shared, “We announce the passing of Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, fondly known as AGBAKO. Details of the burial arrangements will be shared later. Good night, father, 25/02/1923 to 31/10/2024.”

Tributes have flooded social media, with actors like Jide Kosoko and Kunle Afod remembering the actor as a cornerstone of Nollywood. Kunle Afod wrote, “Good night, Pa Charles Olumo (Baba Agbako), the oldest actor. Sun re ooo.”
Pa Olumo, who celebrated his 100th birthday last year, received a grand celebration in Abeokuta, Ogun State, with the attendance of Nollywood stars, including Toyosi Adesanya, Odunlade Adekola, and Tunde Kelani. Actor Muyiwa Ademola even called for Guinness World Records recognition for Pa Olumo as Nigeria’s oldest and most agile film actor.
The late Agbako, a beloved icon of Nigerian cinema, is remembered fondly by generations who grew up watching his work. His legacy as a pioneer of Nigerian film and theatre lives on through the countless fans and colleagues who cherished him.
