Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has clarified that the recent meeting with South East governors in Enugu did not include discussions about the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Following the meeting, there were speculations that the release of Kanu was a key topic. However, Obasanjo has dispelled these rumors, emphasizing that the meeting focused on other pressing issues.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo said, “The meeting with them was at my invitation and of Chief Emeka Anyaoku before their summit begins. The issue of Nnamdi Kanu was not on the agenda and was not discussed in my presence.”
He added that the meeting addressed “security and infrastructure, economic and cooperative/collaboration, which was meant to complement the national economic development agenda.”
The meeting, which included Chief Emeka Anyaoku and His Royal Majesty Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, aimed at discussing regional development issues to foster economic cooperation and enhance security in the South East.
