The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have reaffirmed their commitment to the ongoing strike despite ongoing negotiations with the government.
In a recent statement, the unions declared their intention to persist with the industrial action until further decisions are made at their upcoming meeting.
The NLC and TUC, in a social media post, emphasized that the strike will persist until the resolutions from the previous meeting are reviewed by the union’s organs at today’s gathering.
The statement read, “Until we hear from our organs at our meeting scheduled for today, June 4, we are still on strike.”
Prior to this development, the Federal Government of Nigeria had signaled a willingness to raise the minimum wage above the initially proposed N60,000. This decision, as reported by newsmen was the outcome of a meeting held on Monday night in Abuja between government representatives and labour leaders.
The meeting aimed to address the dispute surrounding the national minimum wage and bring an end to the nationwide strike.
Meanwhile, Podium news understands that the government remains optimistic about reaching a mutually beneficial agreement with the labour unions to bring an end to the strike and restore normalcy to the nation’s economy.
