Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), has returned to the Labour House following his appearance at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

His visit to the police was in response to an invitation concerning allegations of terrorism financing, treasonable felony, and cybercrime.

Accompanied by renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, and several other NLC members, Ajaero arrived at the police headquarters early Thursday morning. The invitation has sparked significant controversy, with accusations that the Federal Government is attempting to intimidate labour leaders.

The NLC, along with affiliated unions, organized a march on police head offices across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in solidarity with Ajaero. The police have indicated that Ajaero is being questioned about his alleged involvement in terrorism financing and other serious charges. This follows a recent police raid on the NLC national secretariat, purportedly aimed at uncovering materials related to the recent nationwide #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.

The NLC’s National Executive Council had an emergency meeting on August 20, condemning the allegations as politically motivated and calling for a postponement of Ajaero’s police appearance. They argue that the accusations are intended to silence organized labour.
