
Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, a consultant pediatrician and founder of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, has been elected President-elect of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). This was announced during the UICC’s virtual General Assembly held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
The UICC, the world’s largest membership organization for cancer control, emphasized the global importance of equitable access to cancer prevention, treatment, and care. In her acceptance speech, Dr. Shinkafi-Bagudu expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you for your trust and confidence placed in me. I am especially honored to work with all of you towards accelerating global cancer control under the umbrella of our great organization.”
She will serve as UICC President for the 2026-2028 term, following the tenure of Ulrika Årehed Kågström, the current president.
