
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the country’s power generation reached 5,713.60 megawatts on Tuesday, marking the highest level recorded in four years.
In a statement released on Tuesday, TCN confirmed that the new peak generation was successfully transmitted across the national grid. The latest figure surpasses the previous peak of 5,543.20MW recorded on February 14, 2025, by an additional 170.40MW.
“This milestone was achieved on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 21:30 hours, with a new generation peak of 5,713.60 megawatts (MW), surpassing the previous peak generation of 5,543.20MW recorded on February 14, 2025, by 170.40MW,” the statement read.
However, TCN noted that while this figure remains 88MW below the all-time record of 5,801.60MW set on March 1, 2021, it is still a significant achievement in the country’s power sector.
Additionally, the company reported a new record for daily energy generation, which rose to 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh), exceeding the previous record of 125,159.48MWh set in February.
“A new record for the maximum daily energy ever attained in Nigeria’s electricity industry was also set yesterday, with a total of 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh). This surpasses the previous record of 125,159.48MWh achieved on February 14, 2025, by 382.58MWh,” TCN stated.
