The Catholic Church in Nigeria is mourning the loss of its oldest priest, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Thomas Oleghe, who passed away early Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the age of 104.

In a statement issued by Gabriel Dunia, the Bishop of Auchi Diocese, the revered cleric was described as a man who lived a fulfilling and impactful life.
“With gratitude to God for a life well lived on earth, I hereby inform you of the passing of the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Thomas Oleghe, the oldest Catholic priest in Nigeria as of today, to the great beyond at approximately 2:30 am this morning,” Bishop Dunia announced.

Msgr. Oleghe, a prominent figure in the Catholic community, served with dedication and humility, earning respect from both clergy and laity. The Diocese of Auchi, where he served, has scheduled his funeral for Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Bishop Dunia concluded his statement with prayers for the repose of the late priest’s soul, saying, “May his lovely and gentle soul continue to rest in perfect peace. Amen.”

Catholics across Nigeria and beyond are paying tribute to Msgr. Oleghe, reflecting on his contributions to the faith and the lives he touched during his century-long journey.
