A Nigerian-American woman, Victoria Ogunremi, has been widely praised for her honesty after returning $5,700 she found in a restroom at her workplace in New Jersey, United States.

Speaking in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ogunremi said she returned the money out of concern for the person who lost it, emphasizing that honesty is a key virtue she upholds.

“The thought of the pain or trauma it could cause inspired me,” she said. “I did not hesitate to return it because of my Christian faith and beliefs. Honesty brings peace of mind, and it is the key virtue I cherish.”

Ogunremi located the owner of the money before informing her employer’s management. Her gesture earned widespread admiration from her colleagues, who were not surprised by her act of integrity.

“The management was very pleased and proud of me. The owner was incredibly grateful and showered me with praise,” she recounted.

Ogunremi credited her late father for instilling strong moral values in her, saying, “He taught us never to take what does not belong to us. Such principles have guided me throughout my life, and I hope to instill them in my children and grandchildren.”

She encouraged others to always choose honesty, noting that doing the right thing brings rewards far greater than material wealth.

Ogunremi’s act has been hailed as an example of integrity and compassion, reinforcing the importance of ethical values in society.
