The Nigerian military has successfully neutralized 92 terrorists and arrested 111 suspects during operations conducted between February 27 and March 6, 2025.

Major General Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, highlighting the military’s ongoing efforts to combat insecurity across the country.

According to Kangye, security forces also apprehended 18 individuals involved in oil theft and rescued 75 kidnapped victims. Among those arrested were suspected gunrunners, oil theft collaborators, and violent extremists. The air component of the operation carried out multiple air interdiction missions, reconnaissance patrols, and close air support strikes against criminal elements.

The Defence Headquarters also announced the establishment of Operation Safe Corridor in the North-West, with its headquarters in Tsafe, Zamfara State. This initiative is designed to rehabilitate and reintegrate repentant terrorists who voluntarily surrender.

During the official handover of the operational facility, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security efforts to curb criminal activities in the region.

Operation Safe Corridor, previously implemented in the North-East to reintegrate Boko Haram defectors, will now extend to the North-West, targeting insurgents and bandits in states such as Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna. The initiative follows a structured approach focused on disarmament, demobilization, de-radicalization, rehabilitation, and reintegration.

Security analysts believe this expansion will complement military operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in Nigeria’s troubled regions.
