In an extraordinary culinary feat, 22-year-old Nigerian content creator and food consultant, Munachimso Nwana, has set a new Guinness World Record by visiting 150 fast-food restaurants within a 24-hour period. The record-breaking attempt, which took place in Abuja, surpassed the previous record of 100 restaurants held by American YouTuber Airrack.
Guinness World Records confirmed the achievement on Wednesday, detailing that Nwana’s journey began at Chicken Republic in Gwarinpa and concluded at Kilimanjaro in the city center. Covering over 25 kilometers on foot—since private transport is prohibited for this record—Nwana sampled a variety of dishes, from shawarma and pizza to traditional Nigerian delicacies like moin moin and àmàlà.
Reflecting on the challenge, Nwana noted, “New York has clusters of restaurants and adequate public transportation systems, so doing this in Abuja was much more daunting and challenging.”
To meet the strict criteria for the record, Nwana was required to purchase and consume at least one food or drink item at each establishment, with 75% of his orders consisting of food. Despite the volume of food consumed, he ensured nothing went to waste, sharing the remaining meals with his team and members of the public.
Nwana’s motivation for the challenge was to highlight Abuja’s vibrant restaurant scene and the richness of Nigerian cuisine. “This record goes to show that the Nigerian food space is worth paying attention to. I would like to encourage people from around the world to come and explore the Nigerian food space,” he said.
