Sky Bet Championship club Southampton is reportedly looking to sell Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo in the upcoming January transfer window. The 28-year-old Nigerian international has entered the final six months of his contract with the club, putting his future at St. Mary’s in serious doubt.
According to reports, Southampton is determined not to let Aribo leave on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer. To avoid this, the club is prepared to listen to offers for the player this winter and is said to be setting an asking price of around €1.5 million for interested suitors.
The primary reason for the potential move is Aribo’s limited playing time this season. He has struggled to secure a regular spot in the team, making only six appearances for the Saints in the current campaign. This lack of minutes has prompted both the club and the player to consider a transfer.
Interest in Aribo is already emerging from abroad. Reports specifically link him with a move to Turkey’s Süper Lig, where clubs Göztepe and Trabzonspor are said to be monitoring his situation and considering an approach in January.
Aribo joined Southampton in the summer of 2022 from Scottish powerhouse Rangers. He has represented the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, on multiple occasions, scoring important goals, including one in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
