Nigerian couple Josh Oyinsan and Mimii Ngulube have made history by becoming the first black couple to win the UK’s popular dating show, Love Island.

The couple triumphed over Welsh finalists Nicole Samuel and Ciaran Davies in the Season 11 finale, with host Maya Jama announcing their victory on Monday night. Oyinsan and Ngulube received the highest percentage of the public vote, securing a cash prize of £50,000.

Oyinsan, a 29-year-old footballer and model, and Ngulube, a 24-year-old mental health nurse and actress, expressed their joy and plans for the future. “I’m looking forward to spending more time with Mimii, meeting her family and friends, and exploring the world together,” Oyinsan said in a post-win interview.

Their victory has sparked widespread celebration on social media, with many praising the show for its increased diversity and inclusivity.

Fans have expressed their delight, noting that the win marks a significant step forward for representation on the show.

The win for Oyinsan and Ngulube comes as Love Island prepares for the debut of its Nigerian version in October.
