The Nigerian Army has rescued 75 civilians from Boko Haram and ISWAP strongholds in Sambisa Forest, Borno State, following a successful military operation. The freed captives include seven adult males, 34 women, and 34 children, who were handed over to authorities at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri on Monday.

The operation, conducted by troops from the 21 Special Armoured Brigade and 199 Special Forces Battalion under Operation Desert Sanity IV, targeted terrorist hideouts in Ukuba, Njimia, Sabil Huda, Garin Falluja, and Gobara. According to Maj. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, the offensive significantly weakened the insurgents by neutralizing fighters, destroying command bases, weapon caches, and IED-making facilities.

Speaking through Brig. Gen. Anthony Okpodu, his deputy, Shuaibu emphasized the military’s commitment to restoring peace in the North-East and enabling socio-economic stability. He highlighted ongoing humanitarian efforts, including child vaccinations, medical aid, food distribution, and psychological support for the rescued civilians.

Receiving the captives on behalf of the Borno State government, Hajiya Aisha Shettima, Director of Social Welfare in the Ministry of Women Affairs, praised the military’s efforts and assured that the rescued individuals would undergo rehabilitation and reintegration.

The Nigerian Army urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces to enhance national security.
