The Second Lieutenant Oluchukwu Owowoh has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army.
This promotion was ordered by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, and announced in a statement by the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) on Wednesday.
The promotion ceremony took place on June 26, 2024, at the Nigerian Defence Academy Officer’s Mess and Golf Club. During the event, NDA Commandant Major General JO Ochai lauded Lt. Owowoh’s exemplary performance during her cadet training, which earned her the distinction of being the first Nigerian female to graduate from the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom.
“Lt. Owowoh’s track record of excellence as a cadet has earned her this rare privilege and her new rank,” Ochai stated during the ceremony. The event saw attendance from senior military officers, academic and non-academic staff, family members, and other dignitaries.
Lt. Owowoh, 24, made headlines earlier this year when she became the first Nigerian female officer to graduate from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, an achievement that has been celebrated as a significant milestone for women in the Nigerian military.
