The Federal Government of Nigeria has received $52.88 million in recovered assets linked to former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, announced the recovery during a formal signing ceremony in Abuja on Friday. He stated that $50 million of the funds would be allocated, through the World Bank, to Nigeria’s rural electrification projects. The remaining $2 million will support the International Institute of Justice to strengthen the justice system and combat corruption.

Fagbemi highlighted the collaboration between Nigeria and the United States in combating corruption, describing the recovery as a significant milestone in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s anti-corruption efforts.

Meanwhile, United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, emphasized the importance of effective monitoring and utilization of the funds to ensure they benefit Nigerians.

This development follows recent legal battles involving Alison-Madueke, who has faced multiple corruption allegations both domestically and abroad. Known for her tenure as OPEC president, Alison-Madueke remains one of the most controversial figures in Nigeria’s anti-graft campaigns.
