
Nigeria has been recognized as the third most generous country in Africa, according to the World Giving Index 2024, published by the Charity Aid Foundation (CAF). This ranking highlights Nigeria’s significant contribution to charitable activities across the continent.
Kenya tops the list as the most generous African nation and the second globally, with The Gambia and Liberia following as second and fourth, respectively. The World Giving Index underscores Kenya’s remarkable generosity despite its challenges with rising living costs and unemployment. The report praises Kenya’s “utu” spirit, reflecting a strong cultural value of humanity and community support.
The report also reveals that globally, 4.2 billion people engaged in acts of giving, whether through monetary donations, volunteering, or helping strangers, representing 72% of the world’s adult population.
In Africa, the top five most generous countries are:
- Kenya (second globally)
- The Gambia (fourth globally)
- Nigeria (fifth globally)
- Liberia
- Guinea
