In a major breakthrough in the fight against cybercrime, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully convicted twenty-one (21) foreign nationals involved in a high-profile internet fraud syndicate operating in the nation’s capital.

The syndicate, uncovered during a coordinated raid on November 3, 2024, at a building in Jahi, Abuja, included 113 foreign suspects predominantly from China and Malaysia, alongside 17 Nigerian collaborators.

The suspects were implicated in a range of cyber offenses, including large-scale internet fraud and hacking, which posed serious threats to Nigeria’s national security and economic interests.

Following extensive investigations featuring digital forensic evidence and expert testimonies, the court convicted and sentenced 21 of the accused as of August 1, 2025. Prosecutions of the remaining defendants are still ongoing.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, confirmed the convictions and highlighted the commitment of the force, under the leadership of Inspector-General Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to intensifying efforts against cybercriminal activities.

The convictions send a strong deterrent message to international and local cybercrime networks that Nigeria will not provide sanctuary for cybercriminals.

The police have pledged to continue utilizing advanced technology, fostering international collaborations, and employing meticulous investigative techniques to dismantle organized cybercrime groups and safeguard Nigeria’s cyberspace.

Further updates on ongoing prosecutions will be made available as the judicial processes unfold.
