National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has issued a strong warning to the new terrorist group, Lakurawa, which recently emerged in Sokoto and Kebbi states.
Addressing the opening of the Comptroller General of Customs Conference in Abuja, Ribadu affirmed that the government, under President Bola Tinubu, will swiftly deal with the group.
“Lakurawa has made a grave mistake trying to destabilize Nigeria under this administration. They will be kicked out of Nigeria,” Ribadu stated, emphasizing that no one challenges President Tinubu’s authority without consequences.
This announcement follows confirmation from the Defence Headquarters about the presence of the Lakurawa group, linked to Sahel-based terrorist organizations from Mali and Niger. Major General Edward Buba explained that the group entered Nigeria amid reduced security cooperation with Niger after recent regional instability.
In a video statement, Ribadu reiterated the government’s commitment to restore peace and stability, saying that military and security forces will take decisive action against the Lakurawa insurgents.
The new terror group, emerging post-military coups in the Sahel, has added to existing security challenges. The Armed Forces have listed nine terrorists wanted for exacerbating regional instability, while northern leaders and community members urge urgent intervention to protect affected areas.
