In a major operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted over 13 million pills of opioids and 338,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup worth more than N9 billion. The drugs, which include Tramadol and Carisoprodol, were discovered in containers from India at the Port Harcourt Ports in Onne during joint inspections with Customs officials.
At Lagos’ Tincan Seaport, NDLEA officers also seized 100 parcels of synthetic cannabis known as Canadian Loud. The drugs, weighing 50kg, were hidden in a container alongside imported vehicles. A suspect, Abubakar Shuaibu Ibrahim, was arrested in connection with the shipment.
In a separate incident at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, 41-year-old Canadian Adrienne Munju was apprehended after arriving from Canada with 74 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 35.20kg. She admitted to being recruited online to deliver the drugs in exchange for $10,000 CAD.
Further arrests were made in Taraba, Lagos, and at the Edo-Ondo border, where NDLEA operatives uncovered more drug smuggling operations.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, praised the officers involved in these successful operations, highlighting the agency’s ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking across Nigeria.
