The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has addressed rumors circulating on social media regarding visa clearance requirements for married women.

Recent reports claimed that married women seeking clearance were required to present a letter of approval from their husbands and a photograph of their spouse.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, the agency clarified that such requirements are no longer mandatory. Babafemi explained that the inclusion of this item initially arose due to security concerns in certain source countries but has since been removed.

“The entire procedure for visa clearance issued by the NDLEA is undergoing review, and the requirement for a married woman to present a letter of approval from her husband to travel has been jettisoned as a non-mandatory item,” Babafemi stated. He also assured the public that this change would be reflected in the agency’s updated clearance procedures, set to be released soon.
