The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has published the names and images of inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State, following a perimeter fence collapse caused by heavy rainfall in April 2024. Over 180 inmates escaped during the incident; while some have been recaptured, many remain at large.

NCoS spokesperson Abubakar Umar stated, “The Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to publish the information of some escapees from the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Suleja, FCT Command, which is as a result of the unfortunate collapse of the facility’s perimeter wall following a heavy downpour on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.”

Umar emphasized the importance of recapturing the fugitives, calling for public cooperation: “The public is further enjoined to cooperate with the Service to recapture these fleeing inmates as they pose a danger to public safety and national security. If any of the escapees is sighted, the public can report to the nearest security agent or agency.”

The NCoS has implemented both overt and covert strategies to ensure the recapture of the escapees and to enhance security measures at custodial facilities nationwide.
