The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has thwarted a drug smuggling attempt at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Federal Capital Territory.

On Saturday, September 20, a man identified as Njimogu Ikedi tried to visit an inmate while concealing substances suspected to be cannabis sativa and other psychoactive drugs within his clothing.

The contraband was discovered during a routine search conducted by NCoS personnel on duty. Following the find, the Controller of Corrections for the FCT Command, Mr. Christopher Jen, ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect.

Njimogu Ikedi was promptly handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution. The NCoS Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, Mr. Samson Duza, warned visitors with illicit intentions to desist, emphasizing the vigilance and strict controls within the custodial centre.

Controller Jen appealed to the public and well-meaning Nigerians to support NCoS in its mission to reform and rehabilitate offenders, which ultimately contributes to public safety across the nation.

This incident highlights ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to tighten security in correctional facilities and crack down on drug-related criminal activities, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining the integrity of the penal system.
